Indian Meteorological Society is a non-profit organization striving to enhance the awareness about the science of weather, climate and all things meteorology . We encourage research activity, organizes lectures, meetings, symposia and discussions. We arrange to publish suitable pamphlets, books, periodicals and brochures.
Objectives
Our objectives include advancement of Meteorological and allied sciences in all their aspects. Involve scientific workers as well as general public in sharing and dissemination of knowledge about meteorology for constructive human activities, such as, agriculture, land use, irrigation, power generation, navigation, aviation, engineering, technology, medicine and public health.

How You Can Help
Forecast affect the lives of thousands of people. The goal of meteorology has always been forecasting. People of all ages have been drawn to the profession by the challenge of forecasting a natural event. But it is not enough as you can guess. To understand even a very simple forecast, a substantial knowledge about nature and weather phenomenon is required. If you think you are able to contribute something to the community, share your knowledge with other enthusiastic people in the form of blogs, scientific and analytical writeups, case study etc.
Courses
The IMS Kolkata chapter is offering online classes in aspects of Meteorology and Climate, Tropical Meteorology, Coding in languages like JAVA and Web development, supported by our renowned academic staff and scientists. These classes are suitable training for aspiring meteorologists, consultants, STEM students, graduates, keen amateurs and academics seeking to improve their range of skills and knowledge in the field of Meteorology. Our Constitution And Our Members
The basic principles of The Indian Meteorological Society is laid down in its constitution, which allow for coordination among its members. Like all constitution it defines the basic administrative structure of the society, elected members and its functions and various other regulations for smooth functioning of the society.
Awards
The Indian Meteorological Society (IMS), in its endeavour to recognize an outstanding and pioneering contribution in the field of meteorology and related areas. Any professional, scientist or engineer with widely acclaimed contributions in the field of meteorology and allied sciences is eligible for this award. There is no age limit. The nature of contributions should be such that they have had significant impact on the growth of meteorological science and applications in the country and yielded tangible benefits. Publications
The official bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Society is VayuMandal. In pursuit of one of its key objectives to support education and research in meteorology, the IMS is making efforts to publish high-quality scientific books with the generous contributions of time and effort by its eminent senior members. Through arrangements with a private publishing house, the IMS has brought out the following books as part of IMS Popular Book Series.
Volunteers
The IMS Kolkata is looking for Volunteers from among its members for supporting the day-to-day activities of the Society office located at Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department, Alipore. In particular, support in administrative matters, IT/website maintenance, publications, online meetings and event management is considered most essential. Engagement is purely part-time, depending on the type of work at hand and the expertise available. IMS members interested in volunteering for may contact here
